Cities of Salt

I struggled through about ¾ of this book before giving up. Characters come and go and never fully develop enough for the reader to care about them. The style of writing is almost biblical in its detachment. It’s just a chore to care about anything that happens. Really awful.

I actually kind of liked this book, despite it not being my usual style. It was hard to get through the first 100 pages, but after that it picked up in my opinion! It does not have a central human character, but the whole story evolves around the communities and how they change through petrol investment, as well as the kind of imperialism that gulf states have experienced with the petrol boom. I found it very interesting but you have to view it in a"macro" scale
