The first in a series of six Crown Colony mysteries by Ovidia Yu, all of which are tree-related. They were all very good, but I found this one to be the best.

A lovely little cosy mystery set in 1930s Singapore, and featuring a smart young woman hoping to make her way in the world beyond what her family has set out for her. It's a series and I'll probably read more.
