I love this book. It is a bag of treats distilled from the day-to-day life of the main character who is a wife, mother, sister, friend and librarian. It is a series of short but satisfying anecdotes and observations, each of which provides a little pleasure for the reader. One may amuse, another might puzzle or offer insight. I found myself with a smile, then a frown, a wince, a chuckle and an Ah-Ha!
Taken all together, Weather evokes a complex, modern worldview of dread and hope, depression and bewilderment, wit and whimsy. But I don’t find the book at all depressing: I guess this is the comfort and solace of art.
