Lee's story traces his childhood from his birth and his progression into petty crime. His political leaning is that without a socialist state problems cannot be solved. Lee's narrative takes place mainly in Dunedin located in the South Island of New Zealand. Lee doesn't pull any punches as he exposes the seedy underbelly and misery of the New Zealand poor during the 1930's.
