Somehow the movie was better than the book. I saw the movie „Memoir of a Murderer“ before I knew it was based on this novella so ideas really excited to read this. The novella offers a more concrete ending (with a few differences in the plot) for anyone who thought the movie version was too ambiguous but other than that the movie actually does a better job creating an intriguing atmosphere. The title story is definitely the best of the four stories in the book. I found the other stories too forced. It is like the author came up with the ending and then had to write a story to fit it. So four stars for the first story and two stars for the others - average of three stars. Would I recommend this book? Yes, but it would be low on my list of recommendations. I do highly recommend the movie though!
