Les sirènes de Bagdad

Description:
A young boy arrives in the capital, Baghdad. His university life has barely begun when the US military bombards him. Forced to leave the once bustling city and the girl he's fallen in love with, he returns to a poor village deep in the desert. However, war relentlessly pursues him. US forces raid this simple village in the dead of night, hunting down terrorists and killing and humiliating his father in front of his terrified family. With his dignity shattered, the young man leaves his home alone for Baghdad, seeking ultimate revenge. In her novel, Yasmina Khadeha depicts the rapidly changing Iraqi society with passionate and compassionate prose. Through the protagonist's experiences, she demonstrates that even in the most dire circumstances, the beauty of humanity can triumph over extremism, and that love and hope, rather than hatred, will rule the world.
