This starts as a delightful adventure story of a man travelling with a hare he has rescued. Often the presence of the hare warms strangers and makes them more open to talking with this strange man who has given up his home and job for a life in the wilderness. If the story stuck to this pattern I would have given it 4 stars, but a couple of times it strays off into weird violence and (I’m hesitant to use this old-fashion word but can think of nothing better) debauchery. I have no opposition to these element in a book (I love Hunter S. Thompson, Brett Easton Ellis, Dennis Cooper, etc) but they just seem so out of place in this story. I still would recommend this book as it is overall a fun story and a quick read.
