What a beautiful book. The last chapter made me cry. This book describes the Chernobyl nuclear accident from the perspective of those who lived through it, and the survivors of those who did not live. There is no complicated scientific explanations or sociopolitical theories. It is purely the human aspect and perspective. I only have vague memories of seeing some news reports on TV about Chernobyl. I was 6 years old when it happened, and I lived on the other side of the world. At that time things that went on within the Soviet Union were almost as secret and mysterious as things are now with North Korea. I mostly remember the word “Chernobyl” on the lips of adults, but I didn’t understand any of it.
