Delightful (and sweet, and horrible)! Had me smiling and chuckling throughout. I just remembered I had read (and enjoyed) this as a child so I thought I’d try it again - not always a wise decision, but this paid off! Kind of a cross between Wodehouse, Dahl and Pratchett. It is perfectly obvious what will happen, but it is still great fun to find out how. It was written in 1979 so some of the language has dated, and there is some cultural/racial stereotypying (Ibbotson writes marvellously witty prose, not deep characters, so everyone is a bit stereotyped)
Priceless performance of the audiobook by Prunella Scales
